Possibly, but not always. Every system has a design limit, and on a 45 degree day a unit that is undersized or dirty will run flat out and still lose ground. If it is icing up, short cycling or the outdoor fan has stopped, switch it off and call, because running it in that state can damage the compressor. What should I do while waiting?
Turn it off at the wall if it is smoking, sparking or leaking, and leave a tripped safety switch alone. Close every blind on the sun side before mid morning rather than after, shut off unused rooms, run fans to move air across skin, and keep water up to children and older family members. Have brand, model and any error code ready.
How quickly can you get here in a heatwave?
