Canberra Winters Do Not Forgive a Broken Heater
Canberra gets genuinely cold. Overnight temperatures below zero are routine through winter, and an apartment or townhouse with no heating drops to uncomfortable within hours and stays there. Summers swing the other way with dry heat above 35. Equipment that handles both extremes wears out faster, and it usually fails at the worst possible moment. Our line is answered 24 hours a day.

What Counts as a Heating or Cooling Emergency?
Anything unsafe. A gas smell, a carbon monoxide alarm, a burning or electrical smell from the unit, repeated switchboard tripping, or water escaping into a ceiling. Gas heating is common here and carbon monoxide from a cracked heat exchanger cannot be smelled, which is exactly why alarms and regular servicing matter.
A heating failure during a Canberra cold snap is a real emergency, particularly for a newborn, an older resident, or anyone with a cardiac or respiratory condition. Cold nights here regularly reach several degrees below zero and an unheated apartment does not stay habitable for long. Tell us who is in the property when you call and we will prioritise.
Some faults can wait a day or two. Weak airflow from a few outlets, a rattle in the roof space, one room that never warms up, a thermostat that has lost its programming. Book them before winter deepens rather than during it, since a marginal heater will quit on the coldest night rather than a mild one. Ring and describe it if you are unsure.
If you can smell gas, or a carbon monoxide alarm has sounded, or anyone in the property has a headache, nausea or unusual drowsiness that eases when they go outside: turn the appliance off, open windows and doors, and get everyone into fresh air. Call 000 if anyone is unwell, and your state gas emergency line for a suspected gas leak. Do not use the appliance again until it has been checked. Then call us on 1300 730 896.

My gas ducted heater will not start on a cold morning. What is likely?
Commonly an igniter, flame sensor, thermocouple or fan capacitor, all routine repairs. Sitting idle over summer is hard on those components, which is why so many heaters fail on the first genuinely cold morning. If there is any gas smell or a carbon monoxide alarm has sounded, treat it as an emergency and follow the safety steps above before calling.
How often should a gas heater be serviced in Canberra?
Every two years, including a carbon monoxide test. Canberra heaters run long hours through a cold winter and heat exchangers do crack with age. Carbon monoxide has no smell, so a test is the only reliable way to catch it. If yours is over a decade old and has not been checked, book it before winter.
What should I do while waiting for a technician in freezing weather?
Close off rooms nobody is using and concentrate everyone in one space, block draughts under doors, close curtains once it is dark, and use blankets and layers. Do not run an unflued portable gas heater in a closed room, and never use an outdoor gas appliance or a barbecue indoors for warmth. If anyone is very young, elderly or unwell and the property is getting genuinely cold, arrange somewhere warm to stay.
How fast can you get to a Canberra address?
Our booking line is staffed 24 hours a day, seven days a week. With technicians based locally, same day or first thing next morning is standard. During the first hard frost of the season the whole city calls at once, so we tell you the honest earliest slot rather than one we cannot hold.
Is an emergency callout more expensive?
You pay a fixed call-out fee covering travel, diagnosis and a full assessment of the fault, quoted before the booking is confirmed. There are no hidden charges. Parts and additional work are quoted in writing and approved by you first.
Which brands do you repair?
Brivis, Braemar, Bonaire, Rinnai, Vulcan, Daikin, Mitsubishi Electric, Fujitsu, ActronAir, Panasonic, LG and Samsung among others. We are authorised service agents for the major manufacturers, so warranty work is handled correctly.

"Extremely helpful staff!!! My reverse cycle split system stopped working suddenly (of course when I needed it most), and the staff talked me through the process. They sent a technician the very next day. He was friendly, efficient, had extra parts on hand to fix the problem there and then, and didn't even leave a mess. Great value for money!"

"Joshua is an absolute credit to the company. He patiently explained the options and the fees upfront. The technician arrived early, diagnosed the problem, and informed me the repair was covered under warranty and that he wasn't an approved Panasonic repairer. His honesty saved me a significant amount of money in a voided warranty."

"I experienced a wonderful professional service from the company and the two technicians that installed my new system within several days. The time lag was mostly as a result of organising finances and reconciling details with my insurance company. I would not hesitate in recommending Quick Air to anyone."

"I couldn't choose quality, value, professionalism, responsiveness, or punctuality as my most liked thing about Quick Air. I cannot give a negative answer on any of them as all my expectations were met. The technician was most knowledgeable and the patience and guidance given to his apprentice was outstanding. I will recommend this company to my friends without any hesitation."
