What Counts as a Heating or Cooling Emergency?
Any failure with a safety element, and with older gas heating that list matters. A gas smell, a carbon monoxide alarm, a burning or electrical smell from the unit, repeated switchboard tripping, or water flooding out of an indoor unit. Turn it off and get outside if there is any doubt about gas or carbon monoxide.
Complete failure in extreme conditions is urgent too. A heating breakdown during a Melbourne cold snap is genuinely risky for an older resident or a newborn, and a cooling failure in a February heat run is just as serious. Many homes here have several generations under one roof, so tell us who is in the house and we will treat the booking accordingly.

My gas ducted heater smells odd when it starts. Should I worry?
A faint dusty smell on the first run of the season is normal and clears within a few minutes. A sharp chemical or burning smell, or any gas smell, is not. Turn it off, ventilate, and call. Older heat exchangers can crack, which is exactly the fault carbon monoxide testing is designed to catch.
How old is too old for a ducted gas heater?
Most units are designed for around fifteen to twenty years. Past that, parts get harder to source and heat exchanger condition becomes the main concern. We will give you an honest assessment on the day, including whether spending money on a repair makes sense or whether you are better off putting it toward a replacement.
What should I do while I wait for a technician?
Turn it off at the wall if it is smoking, sparking or leaking. Leave a tripped safety switch alone. Contain water with towels and a bucket. In the heat, close blinds early, shut unused rooms and run fans. In the cold, close off rooms you are not using and block draughts rather than running an unflued portable gas heater in a closed room.
Can you come out on a Sunday or public holiday?
