When you are considering air conditioner installation, one of the biggest decisions you will need to make is whether you should opt for a split system or a ducted air conditioner. On this page, we want to take a look at each of these systems. We will also look at the pros and cons of each of them. This should help you to find the perfect air conditioning system for your needs.

Ducted Air Conditioner

With a ducted air conditioner, you will have a rooftop unit. This unit will then have various ducts coming off of it. There will be a separate duct for each room of the building. Obviously, when you go down this route, you will be able to air condition all of the rooms at a consistent temperature.

This option is going to be the most expensive of the two. Since there are very few air conditioner service companies that can work with a ducted system, you can expect air conditioner repair to be a little bit more costly. You also need to remember that this type of system is going to be a little bit more difficult to maintain. That being said, a ducted air conditioner does require a lot less in the way of maintenance, and they tend to last a lot longer before breaking down.

There are some benefits to a ducted air conditioner, though. For starters; these systems are going to be a bit cheaper to run, particularly if you work with a decent company for your installation. They will be able to zone the system so that only certain sections are working at once. In addition to this, since the bulk of the equipment will be outside, these systems are incredibly quiet. You may hear a slight whirring sound every so often, but it is going to be nothing like the sound that a split system offers.

If you need air conditioning throughout the whole house, then this is probably the route to go down.

Split System Air Conditioner

With a split system air conditioner, you will have one main unit that brings the air in, and then many separate units throughout the building. In fact, you will need to have a separate unit in each room you want air conditioning in. If you want to cover the whole house, then this can be quite costly. However, if you only want air conditioning in a couple of rooms, or your property is on the smaller side, then this may be the route to go down.

Air conditioner repair is going to be a lot more affordable. If one unit goes down, then your entire system won’t go down. Since everything operates separately, you will still have some units working, even if one has stopped.

To cap it all off; you will have control over the individual temperature of each room. This is different from a ducted air conditioner where the temperature is going to be a bit more standardized across the property.

Which option is right for you?

If you have the budget, and you want to cover the whole house, then a ducted air conditioner installation may be the right option. However, do bear in mind that you will need to have a decent amount of space on your roof. If you don’t, or you want something a bit cheaper, then you should look into a split system air conditioner. Ultimately, both of them are going to do the same job; keep you cool.
